  Thailand
• Ancient City (Meuang Boran)  • Bangkok  • Chiang Mai  • Phuket  • Pattaya

The Kingdom of Thailand draws more visitors than any other country in South East Asia with its irresistible combination of breathtaking natural beauty, inspiring temples, renowned hospitality, robust cuisine and ruins of fabulous ancient kingdoms. From the stupa-studded mountains of Mae Hong Son and the abundant limestone islands of the Andaman Sea, to the pulse-pounding dance clubs of Bangkok and the tranquil villages moored along the Mekong River, Thailand offers something for every type of traveller.

Thailand's natural wonders are matched only by its cultural marvels. You could spend years just trekking its highlands, mooching through its national parks, browsing its islands, checking out the temple architecture, traditional crafts and ancient cities in between.

::::::::::: Popular Destinations in Thailand:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

Ancient City (Meuang Boran)

Ancient City (Meuang Boran), south of Bangkok, is billed as the largest open-air museum in the world. Over 100 of Thailand's most impressive monuments are rendered slightly less impressive in this 80-hectare (200-acre) collection of scale models. The grounds follow the basic shape of Thailand itself and the monuments are placed accordingly. If you're an architecture buff on a brief stay, or just a lover of these sorts of educational theme parks, Ancient City is well worth the trip out of town. The attraction is south of the Thai capital, near the coast of the Gulf of Thailand.

Bangkok

Bangkok's history of haphazard planning means you'll have the best experiences in the most unlikely of places. it has an intoxicating mixture of aromas, sights and visual delights. Bangkok's heritage is reflected in it's palaces and mansions. Just when you start despairing at the predominance of concrete and cars, a waft of incense leads you to a serene temple in an area you'd written off as soulless.

Chiang Mai

Chiang Mai has a striking mountain backdrop, over 300 temples and a quaint historical aura. It's also a modern, friendly, internationally flavoured city with much to offer the visitor - food, accommodation and shopping are all top quality and cheap, and the nights are relatively cool. Chiang Mai is Thailand's second largest city and the gateway to the northern part of the country.

Phuket

Dubbed 'Pearl of the South' by the tourist industry, Phuket is Thailand's largest, most populous and most visited island. A whirl of colour and cosmopolitanism, Thailand's only island province revolves around and thrives on tourism, but still retains a spark of the real Thailand. There are a hundred and one ways to pass the day in Phuket. There are also more tourists here than on any other Thai island - it certainly knows how to cater to tourists' every whim. Most flock to the beaches on the south western side, which are loaded with amenities and entertainment options.

Pattaya

Pattaya is Thai Island rich in coral reefs. Visitors enjoy visiting Pattaya because of its lovely coral formations. It is also a main centre of attraction for those who love water sports. The resorts in the island of Pattaya provide Indian food along with their exclusive seafood dishes.

Weather

Thailand's monsoons arrive around July and last into November (the 'rainy season') and can be quite uncomfortable to deal with. This is followed by a dry, cool period from November to mid-February, followed by much higher relative temperatures from March to June.

Out and away the best time to visit the Kingdom of Thailand is from February to March when the weather is kind and the beaches are at their finest. The best overall time for visiting most of Thailand climate-wise is between November and February when it is not too wet and not too hot. The south is best visited when the rest of Thailand is miserably hot (March to May), and the north is best from mid-November to early December or when it starts warming up again in February. If you're spending time in Bangkok, be prepared to roast in April and do some walking in October - probably the worst two months, in the capital.
